IB: How do you approach songwriting and What influences you? Do you have a
visual image in your mind as the song is composed, or does that come afterwards as a result of the song?
I have a thoughts book in which I put down any thought that I
think is worthwhile writing a song about. Any free time I get I use to write these thoughts out into
sets of lyrics. This "stuff",as I would like to call it, is not very singable. Then I go sets
of lyric by sets of lyric in order and put tunes to them. As far as the actual process is
concerned,I dont really understand how it works. I take my guitar up, take the lyrics and start
it off. If it doesnt come then I try again and again and again....until it comes. I know its
there. Thats the thing. It's got to come and to do so you should let it flow. For me the whole
songwriting thing is an exploration process.I go where the song takes me.
-------------------------------------------------------------
IB: What's your philosophy on music today?
Most of todays music does not really attract me. Apart from a few
bands, i dont really
like listening to most of it. You have the boy band thing, the mixed
groups which dont know
whether they ar a boy band or a rock band, the heavy metal rubbish, the
pop/hiphop extreme and
techno-all which i dont really appreciate.
"What music is , what it's not
It'll be what it's always been
Something new comes around when the worlds state doesnt fit in
With its mood of constant well being when the world is riding high
With troubles no generation before could have sen and they wonder why it
is all going down."
The present music scene is about thinking that either music will save
the day(but it wont so head
bang more and more) or that music is doesnt go that deep at all. A song
is that perfect freind,
to walk with you along the way while you face those very hassles.
-------------------------------------------------------------
IB: Tell us about you, when did you begin writing songs ?
I used to write from the very beggining. I used to write these
stupid rhymes. At age 17, I
learned to play guitar and it just kicked off. I think that the fact
that I havent been doing it
ever since I was born has helped to be non conventional. I dont tend to
stick to styles. I just
let it come.To have it is an ability given to me.
-------------------------------------------------------------
IB: How many projects are you currently involved in?
Right Now I have a CD out but things havent kicked off as yet. I
am currently working in a
day job.
-------------------------------------------------------------
IB:
What's your long-term goals?
I just want to make music, write......i dont kow. Musicians dont
have long term goals
like people in other industries. Their only goal is to make music, make
music and make music.
-------------------------------------------------------------
IB:
How did you get into music/songwriting?
It pretty much runs in the family.I started out on the violin.
Did not take to it much.
Used to always sing though. Writing was always there.next was the
mandolin then the guitar. The
mouth organ canme later
-------------------------------------------------------------
IB:
How long have you been performing?
That i have been performing is an overstatement. Its been on for
about 4-5 years now.
-------------------------------------------------------------
IB:
What other artists/songwriters do you admire? And inspired
you the most early on?
My two most important musicians in the world are Bob Dylan And
Mark Knopfler. Other wise I
listen to Billy Joel, van Morrison, U2.......
-------------------------------------------------------------
IB: What do you want out of life?
All I want to do is to get up every morning, have a cup of
tea.....no lofty dreams so to
speak. Even If I dont make it big, it's cool as long as i get to do
music.
"He's most probable to stop any when he can't do on any more.
He die with music in his soul, it doesn't matter if his dreams ever come
true."
-------------------------------------------------------------
IB:
What is the most important lesson you think you have learned so far?
The most important lesson that I have learned so far is to not
do the miles and get
exhausted but do what you can and reach the finish line strong.
-------------------------------------------------------------
IB: Where do you want to be in the future?
Nowhere in particular but just doing my thing....
-------------------------------------------------------------
IB: How many of your songs are 'instant' songs and how many are
channelled?
Out of the twenty three songs that I have finished, about three
are spontaneous. The rest
are according to the order in my thoughts book
-------------------------------------------------------------
IB: Tell us about your latest project?
My only and latest project is my debut cd "Abberations..."
-------------------------------------------------------------
IB:
Is There anything else you would like to add?
Maybe a couple of songs lyrics
What music is, what its not, it'll be what it's always been
Something new comes around only because the world's state doesn't fit in
With its mood of constant wellbeing when the world is riding high
With troubles no generation before could have seen and they wonder why
it's all going down
Your mother used to tell you, she must have driven it into your head
Of the melodies of a golden time when all was well
Never did she think at all that the world would degrade
Into a place barren of love and joy and all that keeps us sane
It could have been you're father but what I know for sure
Is that sanity isn't the condition of present existence anymore
People substitute it with a lot of things and tell themselves lies.
They'll eventually have to realize that they're the only people who
they can't fool.
You've got so many people behind you, they like their music so soft and
sweet
'That's what we call music", they say, "Bring our hearts down a beat"
You oblige and you have been doing so all along that's been the key to
your survival
Since they either make you or break you, do as your told so you don't
end up singing on the streets.
That boy in the corner of this scenario, He's as good as anyone else out
there.
He'll outlast everyone including you and he has an advantage in his
case.
His passion isn't driven into him, it's a choice he made of his own
will.
He won't die disappointed even if he never gets to perform
He's most probable to stop any when he can't do on any more.
He die with music in his soul, it doesn't matter if his dreams ever come
true.
He holds them in his own hands, yours are in the hands of all those
behind you
You're a victim of someone else's wishes, He's a product of his own
dreams.
Stick around, you'll see him go far beyond
You may not be able to congratulate him
He's all ready, it's only you who's in his way
If you really want to help get out of his way
I know a girl, she's been the queen of many peoples world and that's a
figure running.
It seems to me that she's been handed a disposition
She's gotten used which she wants to shrug off.
But she doesn't know which one to put on in its place.
She doesn't know of one that she even understands.
She's always had expectations pressed down upon her
Having pleased them, she's never really tasted what she wants
Not that she never tried but she must have turned away because it
seemed too scary
Not that she doesn't want it any more because she gets enough from a
boy she could end up marrying
