Alexandra Willis, says her biggest accomplishment was becoming apart of the Meremac Jazz band (Meremac College). Alex tells us, “ I think it is a big jump to success, because you have to jump in with two feet.” Being the youngest one in the Meremac Jazz Band, the 16-year-old Sax and Clarinetist of St. Louis, who began by playing violin and cello in 4th grade credits her desire and continued interest to the encouragement of family. “My parents have always encouraged me to pursue music.” She tells us.
Alex’s future goals are quite ambitious, “ I want to be performing in jazz clubs, and would like to own my own jazz cub someday in St. Louis.” Alex also told me that she would like to invite other bands to perform in her club as well.
Of her musical influences she says “ I really admire Arin Bodie, she is a great jazz artist. And I listen to a lot of Charlie Parker. “
Alex is currently in the Meremac Jazz band - Webster Youth Jazz band and her School jazz band. She was 3rd chair in all suburban in the district… and moved up 16 chairs from her sophomore year. “ I have been 1st chair in my highschool band for a few years.” She says. She was also 4th chair honorable mention in all state band.
Alex is definitely going to be a major player in St. Louis music!
